Good Friday Fish

Hey guys!  I realize it’s been like a week since I have posted anything!  A lot has gone on, but these days, by the time I get home, looking at the computer is the last thing I want to do.  Although I do enjoy blogging…its just finding the time!  It has been a good week–had some really good workout and then a couple that weren’t so great actually.  Like Thursday; did a 30-mile bike ride, 6.5 mile run, and finished it with a 1 mile swim.  But like today, I ran to the gym, rode the bike there, and then ran home, but my stomach felt horrible the whole time!  

I’m trying to figure out what makes my stomach upset and gassy like that.  It’s got to be one of three things- milk/ yogurt before a workout, too much fiber, or food chemicals.  By food chemicals, I mean (because I was big wuss and bought fat free cream cheese instead of real) chemicals in food that make them “fat free” but make then unhealthy instead of being real food.  Thats twice now where I have had fat free cream cheese before a workout and had this happen.  Definitely throwing it away. 

I want to give a shoutout to Anthony from Physique Products,  He sent me some of his Protein Cookies and they are awesome!  They were the first company on the scene to make Protein baked goods and have been doing so since 1989!  Not only are they delicious, but their full of healthy calories to support muscle growth.  They have been perfect for me to eat during my long bike rides since they are healthy and convenient.  I also then eat another one after the workout to recover!

Since Friday was good Friday in Lent, I was good and didn’t eat meat.  Instead I made some awesome salmon!  Salmon is not only incredibly healthy, but tastes great!  I started by soaking a cedar plank in water overnight, then putting that on the grill and placing the salmon on top.  Then while it cooked and smoked, I basted it with barbeque sau… Wait, no I didn’t- that what I would love to do if I had a freaking grill! 

What I did do was pour a little balsamic vinegar on it and cover it in garlic and herb seasoning.  Then I threw the whole thing on the Foreman Grill.  Elegant right?

I had a thought today as I was running…remember when we used to just ride our bikes purely for fun and didn’t have to call it exercise?  I really miss those days.

  1. OH! Those protein cookies sound great!! And that salmon looks really, really tasty…

    I had fat free cream cheese in my breakfast this morning before my run and ya know, I kinda felt a little funny too… hmmm, I think you’re right, we need to just throw it out and get the real deal!

    I often think similar thoughts when I watch my first graders playing at recess. They climb up the equipment, do the monkey bars, jump rope, play tag, and have so much fun. They aren’t thinking about how many calories they’re burning, they’re just enjoying it! I miss that too!

  2. Salmon is one of my favorite foods! I used to hate it when I was younger and now I can’t get enough of it!

    I’m sorry about your tummy.. I’ve been there! I’ve actually given up wheat for a few weeks and it’s so much better! So strange!
